I took this photo on Easter Sunday this past year. This bee is enjoying a bloom on an apple tree at a local orchard.

I think that this is a Carpenter Bee, Paul. Taking pictures of insect in a bright daylight has been always a challenge for the equipment. Often the contrast created from the strong light is excessive and as a result of that the highlights and the shadows suffers. I would suggest if you do not have a RAW format in your camera to see if you can adjust the contrast settings for the JPEG. My little Canon G11 has this useful option. So if you have it simply decrease the contrast in bright days or increase it in cloudy days. Try Paul! Have a fun with your Coolpix P90!
