The Jackdaw is spread all around Europe apart from the northern parts of Scandinavia. Moreover it can be also found in eastern parts of Asia including Turkey and northwestern parts of Africa. That is also the reason, why it is called the ``Eurasian``. It is 39 cm in length. It has got rather dark feathering. it is one of the smallest species in Corvus, the genus of crows and ravens. It is a black-plumaged bird with grey nape and distinctive white irises. The belly is silver as well but it has got dark markings. The wings, legs and feet are blackish too. Understandably the plumage depends on the region the birds live in. The young have darker feathering and blackish irises, while the adults have bluish (greyish- or silvery white) irises. Jackdaws are voluble birds. The call, frequently given in flight, is a metallic and somewhat squeaky, "chyak-chyak" or "kak-kak". Perched birds often chatter together, and before settling for the night large roosting flocks make a cackling noise. Jackdaws also have a hoarse, drawn-out alarm-call.

It is an omnivorous and opportunistic feeder, and eats a wide variety of plant material and invertebrates, as well as food waste from urban areas. They also eat insect found on the sheep’s back, besides they also steal their wool in order to line their nests. During winter it spend their time in large flocks. In agricultural areas it is also very often seen in the company of rooks, Corvus frugilegus. The Jackdaw has benefited from clearing of forested areas and is found in farmland and urban areas, as well as open wooded areas and coastal cliffs. In towns the nest can be found on buildings, chimneys and steeples. It is made of sticks. The hatching takes places after approximately three weeks, while the hens incubates the eggs alone. The eggs are bluish-green and the hen has from 3 to 8 eggs. The young are able to leave their nest after about five weeks.

Ciao Bayram, great capture of wonderful corvus in nice pose, beautiful natural ambientation, splendid sharpness and wonderful colors, very well done my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Meraklı bakışlarıyla etrafı seyreden güzel bir küçük karga görüntülemişsiniz. Kargalar kuşların en zekilerinden bir grup. Ancak adları çıkmış dokuza inmez sekize:) Karganızı birine benzetmek istemiyorum. Adam bu yolla prim yapıyor.
Elinize sağlık,

Good evening dear neighbour,
Very sharp and nice capture of this interesting bird. Impressive focus on his ice eye! There is a colony in the National Botanic Garden of Belgium too, but they are quite shy. You give me the idea to try a shot too!
Good night SA,

Günaydin Bayram dostum!
A fine capture of the European Jackdaw!
The lighting an POV were just right to highlight the gloss of the slaty grey plumage and the pose allowed a superb eye contact to show just how striking the almost white eye is, even more than the pale blue of the juvenile. Excellent sharpness and composition make this one of the best Jackdaw shots that I have seen.
So it is a favourite!
Thanks and have a good weekend MF,
From a very snowy Sweden,

En beğenilmeyeni bile beğenilir kılan fotoğraflarınıza hayran olmamak mümkün değil Bayram hocam.

Hi Bayram

A fine capture of this lovely jackdaw. It brought back some fond memories of when I saw them in Turkey. Good sharpness.

Hello Bayram,
Beautiful photo of this bird I don't like very much. There are huge flocks of these birds here. They are a plague for the smaller birds. They eat all the food and are agressive and intelligent.
But your photo is great. Excellent sharpness, details, colours and taken from a very good low POV.

Merhaba MF Prof. Bayram,
such a lively view especially looking at its special white eye.
Nicely captured with sharpness and clarity so well documented.
Exciting black silvery feathers against the brownish dead leaves.

Ciao BBB. Good sharp and details. Very good focus and contrast against the BG.

Hello Bayram,
An excellent close capture of a Jackdaw with great focus on the eye. The light has brought out the shiny plumage and sharp details very nicely. We have plenty of Jackdaws here but they too suffer from the cold and the deep snow.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Bonjour Bayram,

Hi Bayram.
I like this shot so much. You have pictured it brilliantly. I am impressed with exposure, reproduction of colouration of the bird and every feather (as well as eyes, beak and legs). Dry leaf cover is amazing too and so suitable for this bird. My compliments and wishes and restart your postings here.

Good evening Bro,

Wonderful photo of a jackdaw, great sharpness, DoF, pose, composition - and the combination of black feathers and silvery white eyes is awesome! Brilliant job. Bravo.

I'm so glad you had a look on my latest posts and you sent the link of your new personal homepage. You have great collection of photos there, too.

Have a great night, friendly regards, László
