Painted Bronzeback or Dendrelaphis pictus

This guy really give me a scare, not because of its ferocious look. But because I did not notice him among the leaves. I was spying on the brown skipper then right in front of my nose , he blinked.
I gave myself a short break and then he willingly waited for me to shoot a few clicks.
Though not poisonous or aggressive, it still make my heart beat faster than before.

Then he went away, maybe smiling for the fright he gave.
Here is the point to take note when walking in the rain forests or equatorial bushes, snakes are almost unnoticed.
There were instances where King Cobra, vipers took to strike on thinking that human approaches too near.
Maybe that is the reason why local villagers, wrapped their heads in heavy rounds of turban. So when a snake strike it wont touch the skin or parts of the head.

Painted Bronzeback or Dendrelaphis pictus is a species of snake found in Southeast Asia and India.
A widespread and common species, the Painted Bronzeback can be found in a variety of habitats including scrub, secondary forest, back-beach habitats as well as parks and gardens. It is active by day, searching for its food prey - mainly lizards and frogs. Nervous in disposition, it will flee swiftly when threatened or disturbed.

In the Painted Bronzeback the maxillary teeth number from 23 to 26, the eye is as long as the distance between the nostril and eye. The rostral scale is more broad than deep, and is visible from above. Internasal scales are as long as, or slightly shorter than, the praefrontal scales. The frontal scale is as long as its distance from the rostral or the tip of the snout, but shorter than the parietal scales. The loreal is long and there is one preocular and two postoculars. The temporal scales are 2+2, 1+1, or 1+2. There are nine (seven or eight) upper labials, with the fifth and sixth (or fourth to sixth) entering the eye. This snake has five (four) lower labials in contact with the anterior chin shields the latter shorter than the posterior, which are separated by one anterior and two posterior scales. Scales are in 15 rows, vertebrals about as large as the outer; Ventrals number 151–204, the anal scale is divided, and subcaudals number 103–174.

The species is identified by its bronze head, black eye-stripe and mask, and black and cream lateral stripes along the length of the body. When threatened it will inflate its body slightly to reveal bluish or turquoise skin underlying the body scales.
The species ranges from southern China, through Indochina and Thailand, to Peninsular Malaysia, the larger islands of Indonesia and the Philippines.
The snake's colouration is olive or brown above with a yellow lateral stripe, bordered below by a dark line between the outer scales and the ventrals. A black stripe on each side of the head passes through the eye, widens or breaks up into spots, separated by bluish-green bands on the nape. The upper lip is yellow, and the lower surface yellowish or greenish. Length of head and body approximately 740 mm and the tail 440 mm

The leaves are framing well the reptile. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Painted Bronzeback serpent. It is clear and sharp. The morning light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.
