(Merops philippinus) 栗喉蜂虎
Size: 30 cm
Small; green crown and back; yellow and rufous throat; brown upper breast; under-parts apple green.
Described as a liquid be-rek, be-rek; or rillip rillip rillip.
Found in open country with scattered trees, usually near freshwater marshes, rivers and coasts. It hawks for bees, wasps and butterflies from an open perch. It will congregate in large flocks, roosting together in mangroves and marshes. Itís also nests in colonies, often digging burrows into riverbanks.
Common winter visitors throughout Singapore.
