Hello Alan,
Although I think the colours are a bit oversaturated, this is a beautiful close photo of a Spectacled Redstart. Nice sharpness and a very good composition.
Regards,
Peter

Hallo Alan
Whether this beeing a red or a white start I do not know, what I do no is that it is a beautiful bird with flashy bright colours (almost like Flash Gordon) and you have captured it so beautifully. I love the patch of reddish-orange on its head and the inside of the tailpiece. The black feathers looks it is wearing a cloak. A truly lovely image, presented in a pleasant manner. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Alan,
Most non-U.S. neotrop specialists have been calling genus Myioborus "Whitestarts" for years, and finally it would seem that the obvious is starting to prevail, i.e., calling them "whitestarts". There is no intuitive morphological reason for associating them plumage-wise to the old world redstarts. Even though Van Remsens's SACC baseline list is still resisting (remaining faithful to the view of the U.S. based specialists), they are becoming increasingly isolated, and now the IOC has adopted nomenclaturally the much more sensate view of calling them "whitestarts". Sooner or later, I expect the remaining resistance to collapse by popular pressure.
