Hello everybody !!! Here I am, with a new picture - at last. I have been wanting to post something ever since Christmas, but I have never found the time, but today I found some minutes to upload it.

On the picture you can see a bird I have shot through my living room window. It is a European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris). I have a feeder where I am feeding the birds with old nuts, and so far I have 8 species that come eating. It is great to watch them come and go, and to watch how the different species are interacting with each other.

The reason why I have chosen to post the picture of this Starling is very simple : I didn't even know this species was living so close to our house. I had NEVER seen it before. And then suddenly, one cold winter day, a pair appeared out of nowhere at my feeder. I was so excited, I and luckily the baby was in his bed so I could grab my camera and shoot.

The picture is nothing exceptional - first there is this ugly metal bar in the FG, hiding the bird's legs, and then the quality is not the best either. And it was taken through the (not so clean) window, it was definitely too cold outside to open it. I was also afraid the bird would disappear again, so I wanted to be quick. I took several pictures, this is the best, then both birds flew away.

They appeared again the next day, and each day after that, eating my nuts at the window. Then the snow disappeared, temperatures became milder, and they didn't come back. I miss them.

In the WS, you can see a picture taken on the same snowy day... but with a very different subject ! :-)

Hello Valérie,
A nice one of a European Starling in winter plumage, probably one that nests in Sweden but overwinters in your area! We don't have them in the winter!
Good lateral POV taken with excellent sharpness and natural colours.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Welcome back, Valerie!
It is good to see you posting again. This picture of a Starling taken through the window presents a fine impression of its plumage. The bird seems to be in a thoughtful mood, going by the expression in its eye.
However, seeing you and Denis out there in the snow makes my day. Both of you are looking so very cute! I hope I'm still around when Denis posts his first picture on TN.
Thanks and keep posting.

Only rare pictures are perfect. The part I love is that you caught it in a almost human moment. It is as if I could read it's mind and feel it's old and hunger. Much like St. Francis yes?
Bob

Hello Valerie,
very sharp shot of the bird especially on the head. The shiny dark eye is so well seen. The pattern of the feather is so lively.
A nice capture with features well presented.
A big welcome back!

Foozi

Hello Valerie,
For having to shoot through a window, the detail is quite good. It's nice to see you are able to find the time to post, even though you are very busy being a mom these days.
We have European starlings year round here in Ohio. They really are beautiful birds when you see them up close with their iridescent colors bursting forth under the right lighting.
Love the WS image, you can be very proud of such a fine looking son. I see he has blue eyes which is neat, since four of our six grandchildren have blue eyes also.
Ron

Bravo!

Ciao Valerie, lovely bird on a wonderful lighting BG, fine details, beautiful natural colors and splendid sharpness, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Valerie
