[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Seems like it's been a long while since we've seen bare ground here in Northeast Ohio. The snow and ice have kept our part of the state in a deep freeze for quite some time now.

I photographed this Red-tailed Hawk today while it was scavaging on the rotting carcass of a road kill deer. I would imagine it is getting pretty hard for the predators to find available food since everything is covered under a thick layer of ice.

The population of birds of prey seems to be rising over the last couple of years. I have noticed more hawks in the area as well as buzzards. I actually quit raising Roller Pigeons, because the Cooper Hawks were getting to them whenever I would let them out to fly.

There has been an almost totally white colored Red-tailed hawk hanging around the area for the last four years, which I've been keeping keeping a close watch on. I have gotten a few shots of it, but nothing that I've been satisfied with. Hopefully this year it will return and I can capture some decent images.

Hi MF Ron,
An excellent winter nature shot. The clarity superb! The proper DOF has blurred the background well and your shutter speed has frozen the action well. A nicely balanced composition indeed.
TFS and have a nice new week!

Hi Ron,this pic is a fantastic artwork, very usefull talking about the hawk, and very spectaculat talking about the composition.Very impressive quality of sharpness and colors in a perfect white very well balanced. Thanks for share, have a nice day,Luciano

Hi Ron,

Wow, that's a spectacular shot! Great detail and color in the bird. Looks like the deer carcass has been worked over well. Coyotes?

We have quite a lot of raptors here in the winter too. Up until last week when the blizzard dumped on us, we had several Short-eared and Long-eared Owls nearby, but the deep snow has driven them off, too deep for good hunting.

A side note: our native vultures aren't properly called buzzards, but I know that a lot of people do incorrectly call them by that name. The term "buzzard" is properly applied to many species of Old World birds.

Thanks,
John

Hello Ron,
It's natural and perfect taken scene. Although white snow mix with white sky I think it don't disturb here.
