FIJI ISLANDS

Fiji is a country and an archipelago in the southern Pacific Ocean, consisting of about 330 islands and 510 islets and atolls of volcanic origin, spread in an area of 3 million km˛. Only about 100 islands are inhabited by the 832,000 residents. It is a tropical paradise with beautiful beaches. Its clear waters and reefs are ideal for diving and fishing.

The land in the distance is Castaway Island in the Mamanuca group of Fiji islands. It is located due west of Nadi international airport. The island's 174 acres are covered with lush tropical vegetation, surrounded by white sand beaches and encircled by vibrant coral reefs. And there is a really super Resort on this island too – we stayed there last time we came here, but not this time.

Here in the foreground is another of the many atolls that are often just below the surface. This is one area of water that I would not like to sail around without a capable map and compass, and a good skipper as well! There were many of these tiny and larger atolls in the waters. Often we could see waves breaking over some of them from the shore. On our way back to the airport we caught a helicopter and we could see many of these the beautiful green patches like this one in the photo.

I have not changed any colours in this photo; all I have done is to crop and sharpen it, reduce it in size, and place the frame around it. I hope you like it. I wanted to show you the beautiful and different colours that are seen in these Fijian waters.

This is amazing, Janice. I was so surprised to read that this is all natural color. I had not heard of atolls so I learned something new. Were you on shore or on a boat? You captured this beautiful natural area gloriously!!! Just stunning. :-)
