[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This moth is widespread in our region. However, it is not a very easy subject for shooting.

Many years I could dream to shoot it only. One year ago after purchasing a lens with super-fast and accurate autofocus I was up to this task. It was found that to photograph the moth by means of the Nikon D700 + Nikkor AF-S 70-200/2.8 VR II combo is quite not difficultly. After that the key point is a subject, its beautifulness and light conditions. My summer house is surrounded by wild field grass and plants which have not very attractive state. But the exceptions are happened.

Shared shot is the first at all in whole first series of the pictures of the Hummingbird Hawk-moth. If I will have a free time I shall show other pictures of the moth.
_____

Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) is a species of Sphingidae. Its long proboscis and its hovering behaviour, accompanied by an audible humming noise, make it look remarkably like a hummingbird while feeding on flowers. It is theorised that this resemblance is a result of convergent evolution. It flies during the day, especially in bright sunshine, but also at dusk, dawn, and even in the rain, which is unusual for even diurnal hawkmoths. Its visual abilities have been much studied, and it has been shown to have a relatively good ability to learn colours (Macroglossum stellatarum).

Hello Alexei,
A very fine capture of a species that is not common in my region, the Hummingbird Hawk-moth.
The timing, focusing, sharpness and colours are excellent and the composition against the bokeh BG and with the thistle flower is great.
When I see this moth I usually do not have my camera with me!
Thanks for sharing this fine imgage,
Kind regards,
Ivan

Hello Alexei,
Splendid capture with excellent details and lovely clarity.
You managed the exposure very well. It is very difficult to catch a image with this insect
because this Hummingbird Hawk-moth is moving very fast.
Thanks for sharing!
Marius.

A beautiful and timely snapshot Alexei, of a finely patterned hawkmoth feeding on a brilliantly coloured thistle flower. The moth's movements were perfectly frozen, the POV was excellent, the DOF was nicely managed to include both the moth and the flower and last but not least, the BG was rather good! TFS this wonderful image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Ciao Alexei, great capture of this fast moth on a beautiful flower, lovely blurry BG, fantastic colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Very good work.

Hi Alexei,
This is very different with the activity of the butterfly. Excellent image! Personally I would have cropped the bottom part of the flower but still excellent as is.

Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hello Alexei,
You are right, it isn't an easy to catch this very fast Macroglossum stellatarum in flight. You succeeded to make a very pleasant composition with the pink flower like a globe on which the moth "tanks its fuel". Lovely color-combination too. May be we will see some more shots..
Kind regards
Anne
