[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the same flower and the same individual as that one, which was presented by me few days ago (Hummingbird hawk-moth).

I wish to accentuate that this moth is not very difficult subject for shooting in certain conditions. This insect hovers above (near) the flower while it is eating. If you have camera with fast and accurate continue autofocus and fast series it is not a problem to capture and shoot this insect. The key points of shooting of the subject are the POV, light conditions and beautifulness of plants and surroundings.

I think that in that time I was lucky and all these components were appeared all together.

Before that photo session I tried to shoot this moth many times. It was almost impossible with Konica Minolta 7D, with Nikon D700 without 70-200 lens. Many times scenery was created by not very attractive grass and plants. Only when all conditions became fine I managed to take a whole series of good shots. However, many of them reflected moth with not very nice wingspread, direction of sunlight and shadows.

Flight of this insect as well as flaps are really too fast.

Have a nice weekend and many thanks for friendly responses.

Hello Alexei,
Another great action macro of M. stellatarum. The composition for this POV is perfect and the high shutterspeed together with perfect focusing produced a sharp image of this hummingbird Hawk-moth probing the thistle flower deeply with its proboscis.
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan

I have never seen a sharper picture of Hummingbird Hawk Moth than this, Alexei. It is a true marvel; you have frozen the subject in mid air.
In addition, the pink flower enhances the aesthetic aspect of this composition.
Thanks and regards.

Hola Alexei.
Nice and colorful photo, Great POV, Beautiful BG, and light.
I just wonder. Why ISO at only 720. Set it higher probably at 1600 and You SS goes to 1/8000 of sec. as far as I can see You have a lot of light here. Dont be afraid My friend.

Hi Alexei,
perfect colourful composition.

Difficult for execution but perfectly captured moment of a flying hummingbird Hawk-moth, Alexei! This is one of the keys for the successful photography in my opinion!Bravo! Superb work indeed!

another great macro shot of your flying hawk-moth seri, with great sharp focus and POV/DOF. coloration and composition also great. thanksfor sharing. all the best my friend.
have a good night

Hello Alexei,

Amazing details in the insect body!
The tad of motion blur in the wings (at 1/2000 sec!) gives a feeling of life, and the whole scene is almost surreal as I get the impression a spacecraft is approaching an unknown globe...
The situation is well framed!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Alex,
superb view and excellent capture. You froze the moth so well in exciting composition. The placing of the flower on the corner and the moth on other diagonal really gives a stunning view. clarity and sharpness is splendid.
Very difficult but you did very well.

Hello Alex,
Number two of your Macroglossum pictures...another pose and a very interesting composition, the Moth forms almost the diagonal of the shot. You are right it depends of your material if you can make a good shot of thiese creatures. I actually took mine with a 60mm macro lens.
Have a nice afternoon
Kind regards
Anne

Hi Alexei,
Fabulous picture. I read your note and it is very informative. Well done on both counts.

Hello Alexei,
A gorgeous image of this pretty little Hummingbird Moth. Your 1/2000 shutter speed allowed you to capture some fine detail in this inflight shot. The colors are very attractive and the exposure is right on the money. Well done!!

Hi Alexei,
There are Hawk-Moths or its relative here in Thailand. I have difficulty in following this insect. This moth stops at a flower only a few seconds. Your shot is quite an achievement. Perfect timing to get a picture at wings fully spread out. Very well done and tfs.
JC

Hello Alexei,
After more than five years, you still continue to creat endless exciting images in your gallery. This is so well framed and details are amazing.
Thanks and have a nice day my friend.

Hello Alexei.

Fantastic insect, nice capture.

Regards.

Privet Alexei,
I know this kind of photos, I mean doing them well, is very difficult. But you're able to do it! I've seen many quality shots in your gallery of flying butterflies and birds, with excellent settings of shutter speed and ISO. This isn't the case by my opinion. For this, very fast species 1/2000 wasn't enough to freeze. I think Luis' idea about higher ISO and faster shutter speed really works. Unfortunately the moth isn't sharp enough, and I mean not the wings only, and the image got a slight cyan overcast color-wise. As a composition, it's of course great - a pity the other aspects are rather "so-so" instead of "yes".
Best regards, László

Hello Alexei
