I am again showing you the same Scotch Bonnet shell, (Phalium granulatum undulatum) from the Cassidae family, which a few weeks ago I had tried to display from its apertural side. Now you are seeing it from its body whorl or dorsal side. From this aspect, you can see its rather high spire ending in a sharp pointed apex, angular shoulders of the initial whorls with slightly constricted sutures and the greatly expanded body whorl ending with a thickened varice (or varix) at the outer border of the apertural lip. This aspect also demonstrates the various sculpturings (strongly spiral cords with axial riblets) rather well. The general creamy light brownish colouring of the shell, with darker reddish brown axial "flame marks" is also clearly visible. The characteristic broad and narrow brown bands are quite apparent on the varice.
The hand collected shell was placed under available ambient daylight, with open shade conditions, coming from left, and to provide some fill-in light, a small white cardboard passive reflector was placed to the right of the shell. As usual, a black BG was chosen.

Hola Profesor.
Your photos are pure art my friend. Full of sharpness and great light. Fine details in this shell.
As usual... Great informative note My dear PhD.

What a perfect craftsmanship of nature is manifest in this specimen of shells, Dr Mehmet!
The symmetry of the whorls on this side of the shell is immaculate; human effort at crafting things pales in comparison. The splash of colours in abstract patterns is art at its best.
Your imagery of these creations lends them additional charm.
Thanks and regards.

Salam Prof. Mehmet,
exciting colours and lively pattern of the bonnet. The sharpness and clean view with dark background really offer an excellent attraction.
good use of balanced lighting and excitement is there in looking at the shell, just like children who found a beautiful one on the beach.
Thanks for your advice, really appreciate it.

Hello Mehmet,
It is always very interesting to see your shells from different angles and you capture them so well! The details of the spirals and colours are excellent and the note is a great bonus.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hello Mehmet,

The shell is skillfully captured, with excellent texture in the surface!
A good close-up with clear natural colours, sharp fine details!
Well done on avoiding reflections in the surface!

Hallo Mehmet
I have been away from the site for a while and missed some beautiful images, this one of yours of the Scotch Bonnet shell. I am always amazed by the way you bring out the beauty of the shells with your photography and I can just say: A shell is not only a shell when Mehmet Atatur has photographed it. Then it is a piece of art! Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Mehmet,
Nature, including people, is wonderful. Some specialise in bird photography and others in insects or landscapes and there is no end to the beauty of it. And here you are showing us shells splendidly displayed. What is it that controls and governs the way in which a particular species always behaves, or that they build their shells with a specific shape? Thank you for a beautiful picture and valuable note.

Très jolie collection de coquillage, dommage qu'ils ne soient pas dans leurs milieux naturel.

Merhaba Mehmet hocam,
Truly beautiful as each shot of you. Solid lights, great colors, gorgeous details... I can only say bravo MF! Great visual impact. Tfs.
Have a nice weekend, best regards, László
