[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Horizontal layers of soft sediments were chemically precipitated from seawater on the bottom of an ancient marine basin. Over millions of years, complex chemical processes converted the soft sediments to (still horizontal) strata of hard sedimentary rock. Continental collision caused the closure of that ocean and structural deformation of the strata into folds at any scale from a few centimetres to many kilometres across - Pencil for scale at the crest of the small anticline.

A great variety of structurs are displayed at the Wonderkoppie, the name of which can be translated as "Miracle Hill" or "Mystery Hill".

Hello Neels,
Fine capture of these deeply folded rock-strata contrasting well against the sandy surrounds. The pencil is a good size indicator that would be harder to estimate with just the grassy tufts.
Nice composition, colours and lighting too.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Excellent presentation of a geosyncline and anticline in miniature Neels, the harsh lighting emphasized the rock structure rather well in this naturescape in fine colours.

Hello Neels,
Truly a beautiful formation of rocks. No wonder they call it Wonderkoppie. Very well done and thanks for sharing.
Regards
Natley
