Hello friends, when last year in late
April i did this photo of the 4
camouflaged American woodcock chicks
with their environment, i decide that
this photo will be my 4th TN anniversary's

as you can see today i am celebrating my
4th anniversary, the best thing that i did
4 years ago it is to become member of this forum
Learning about nature through photography

in 4 years i learned a lot about the Nature
and i improved a lot my photography skills

as you can see on this photo there is
4 American woodcock chicks, i was with
my friend that every spring he do
American woodcock chicks banding
for the Canadian Government

The chicks on this photo are 1 day old

from timberdoodle.org website

« Woodcock eggs split lengthwise,
unique among birds. Chicks are
precocial – well-enough developed
that they can leave the nest only
a few hours after hatching.

They are covered with down, pale brownish
or buff in color and broken up with darker
spots and stripes in a camouflaging pattern.
Chicks will freeze when a predator threatens
or in response to their mother’s alarm call.
The hen broods her young frequently,
settling her body over them to shield
them from rain and cold.

Although woodcock hens nest singly,
they may share feeding areas with
other hens and broods. At first,
a hen finds food for her young,
but after a few days the chicks
feed themselves. After two weeks
the young can fly short distances,
and at the end of four weeks they
are almost fully grown, fly strongly,
and look like adults. The family breaks up
when the young are six to eight weeks old. »

Hallo Asbed
Congratulations on the 4th year milestone you have reached. It was/is a great privilege to visit your gallery. Your images might sometimes be described as unusual but it has the Abed (CeltickRanger) mark on it, just as this one of the camouflaged chicks you share as part of your birthday celebrations. They are really well camouflaged, but when one look closer one can see the pretty detail on the fluffy feathers, and the sharp pointed beaks. I also like the sunlight peeping through as it highlights the spots that need to be emphasised. Thanks for sharing and may I wish you a wonderful trip into the future with Trek Nature. Best regards.

Well well well,

What on earth have you here, camouflaged they maybe, but please focus on the chicks, they might as well not be there?.

Hi Asbed. Happy 4th on the site. This is an amazing picture that really shows how well camoflage works. It's a little weird to see some of the light colours in the chicks is meant to look like sunlight. Very cool indeed. It's good to have someone posting these guys on this site. TFS Trevor

A superb close capture of these perfectly camouflaged American Woodcock chicks, taken with excellent sharpness and natural colours that make them well seen despite the superb camouflage pattern and colours among the dead leaves.

Bonjour Asbed,

Sensible y encantador trabajo Asbed:

Bonjour Asbed,
