I think I've found my little spot close to home that I can visit quickly when the light and sky are right. This small fen is only located 15 minutes away from my home and it has some wonderful features to capture from different sides and at different times of the year. The Starven is one of the many fens located on this moorland, but I feel it is the best of them all.

I took this photo last Tuesday when I noticed that the sky was finally filled with some wonderful puffy clouds. Unfortunately most clouds disappeared when the sun came closer to the horizon. But luckily I arrived on time and could use the golden side light to illuminate the landscape and clouds that were still there.

The Starven was naturally created by the wind. Sand was picked up deposited further to the west. The whole slowly filled with rain and ground water. It is now a paradise for birds, insects and other animals.

I made this photo with my recently purchased camera and lens. A hotshoe spirit level was used to make sure that the horizon was running straight. A grad ND and ND filter were used to balance the exposure and to slow down the shutter speed. And finally a cable release and tripod were used to make sure camera shake would not ruin the result.

Hallo Niek,
Fantastische foto met een prachtige dieptewerking en schitterend licht en kleuren. Je hebt deze foto vanuit een erg mooi standpunt genomen. De wolkenbanken geven de foto nog eens extra diepte.
Groet,
Peter

Very appealing and should I say elegant set up we have here, Niek! Love that "chaotic" yellow water grass! 5D Mark II is the camera of choice for that kind of images, indeed! I have no idea what kind ISO settings has been used here but from an experience I can say convincingly that the richest color gamut of this full-frame camera can be seen between ISO200 and ISO400. Enjoy the new gear my friend!

Hello Niek
Your photo is very artistically done, a good composition with perspective. Your sky is well contrasted aand colorful, the horizon at 2/3 is perfect. Good us of natural light.
Bravo
Serge

Hi Neik,
Wonderful landscape. Great light on the grass and water. Very unusal and beutiful cloud formations. Well done.
Denis.

Oh Boy! You outdid yourself with this one! It's gorgeous, A new camera and lens, eh? Wow. How do you like them? I owned a 5D for a couple of days but it was too heavy for my tired hands. I do think it is better than the 40D. Isn't that what you had?

Your composition is super...wonderful foreground focus and light and tremendous depth. I'm glad you found a nearby place to photo.

I've so enjoyed witnessing your photographic progress. : )

Hy Niek
I am very pleased to see a landscape from you and that you have another spot for such photography. As I said many times before, I like the horizon line, quite far away, which allows you a large perspective. I am looking forward for other incredible images from you.
Kind regards,
Oana

Hello Niek,
Now to see if I remember what Evelynn taught me. The key elements are the sunlite grasses in the fore ground, the different layers and the lines of the clouds and glasses leading into the water. All this elements create depth and pull the observer into the image. Hows that Niek am I close. All I see is a wonderful eye pleasing image, thank you sir.

Hello, I just discovered your gallery of photos and I am so pleased. I agree with you that light is one of the most important aspects of landscape photography along with composition. In this image one sees how the light shines on the grasses in the foregorund bringing interest to the front of the image as well as the background.
You have a beautiful gallery of photos,
TFS,
Karen
