[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today after work I got playng around with the shutter speed on my camera and actually shot a bird in flight that I am reasonably proud of. It's ring billed gull (Larus delawarensis). Getting birds in flight is pretty tricky I have a little more respect for those trekkers who are really good at this. Have a fine Easter weekend everyone.

Hi Denis, this is a cracklingly good shot of the gull in flight.About getting birds in flight it is not all that difficult to get good captures of them if they are large and slow moving and the light allows a fast shutter speed such as the one you had for this excellent photo. The real difficulty occurs with very fast or small birds in flight and I know like you now know just how tough it can be.I pre-focus on birds at rest anticipating the moment when they might take to flight rather than try for them while already in flight. To show a bird or any bird in flight is to show that quality that is so special about them.I love birds of all colours and stripes and think of them as the most remarkable of all creatures that live on this great world of ours.I do have a bias somewhat but I can't help but admire the beauty of birds and even sometimes(silly it may be) wish I could be one even if only for a day.The very thought of self flight intrigues me even as an adult and man I wish it could be so.We humans may have balloons, helicopters and airplanes but they all are pale when compared to how birds go about their flight. No flying machine is a bird's equal and nor is it as lovely to see in flight.

This photo has nothing in it that I can see ,that really needs improvement except for the fact you can't fly next to it-that is.A wonderful shot and thank you giving us a chance to see Mr. or Ms Ring-bill gull,it really makes me want to have my own wings.

Hi Denis,
very nice point of view. Excellent sharpness. Very good composition.
I like this capture and its colours.
Happy Easter,

Hello Denis, excellent image of this .... herring gull in flight. Perfect detail despite the movement of the subject. All the best, Paul

Hallo Denis
Well done! Wow I am sure you must have been so chuffed when you saw this image and the fact that you indeed finally got one!.
I agree with you 100% about the respect one ought to have for those who achieve this type of photos and makes it looks as easy as pie. Yours is super and I cannot find fault. The natural colours in the scene is beautiful too. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Denis,
You nailed it, splendid inflight image of this beautiful gull. They maybe noisey but they are beautiful. Great job Denis.

Great in flight photo Denis!! The composition, the colours and especially the sharpness are impressive.
Happy Easter to you and to your family.

Hi Denis,

Great composition & sharpness for this dynamic seabird. I especially this illustration of how the bird's plumage mimics so closely the background colours of it's preferred environment. Have a great Easter.

Hello Denis

A great in-flight shot of the ring-billed gull
and i love that the bird it is not more closer
and like this we can see of its environment
at the background, great POV at its level,
excellent framing with that free space in front,
superb focus with great sharpness and details, TFS

Hi Denis
This is a wonderful shot you an be proud of. Birds in flight are still a great challenge to all photographers. Many things have been said about this photo, butwhat I'd like to add and appreciate is the fact that you shot it from above, showing the back of the bird, this is unusual.
Very good shot
Regards from Québec

I wonder if summer will even come for you way up there, having heard of the terrible winter S in Calgary from friends.

Great capture of a bird I know too well...they never leave. Like some insects, I think we shall see their tenacious bones carved into fossils some day. The while on white makes for a tough but nice looking shot for Easter. Well done!
