[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Although I have been having some great vacations in the past couple of year, photography always came second. At the end of last year I decided I wanted to change this and go on a vacation that was purely focused on my hobby. I looked at Iceland and the Faroer islands but finally decided to go to the Lofoten. A two week trip with a little Rorbruer and a rental car should be enough to make a few good photos and get a nice impression of the islands.

The photo you see here was taken on one of the first evenings on the islands. After some location scouting during the day I came across the wonderful stretch of coast and I knew that when the evening light was right, a spot among the rocks facing the island of Austvågøy would be perfect. Nature didn't disappoint me that evening and some wonderful rays of gold and red light were illuminating the mountain range and ominous clouds.

I was standing on a rock in the ocean with the water level slowly getting higher. I had to keep watching my small escape route across the still accessible beach. Setting up my tripod was easy as the rock had some good flat areas. Of course I used my hotshoe spirit level to make sure that the horizon was running straight in my composition. A 0.9 grad ND filter was used to balance the exposure and a cable release was used to be sure no camera movement was captured.

There is for sure more to come from this vacation and eventually a travelogue will provide a great overview.

Hallo Niek,

Amazing landscape dreaming of fairy tales and gnomes, excellent sharpness and light, wonderful colors! Thank You for sharing!

Hello Niek!
Super shot, amazing colors, great DOF and sharpness.Lovely to see the rays of light. In an only word: gorgeus pic! Thanks for sharing and also thanks for the nice note( you are not only a great photograph but also a very good writer).
Best wishes and keep posting, please!

Hallo Nick
I am sure this must be as close to paradise as what can be. How beautiful is the view in front of me? It looks so clean, pure and unpolluted. I can almost smell the fresh air that surrounds this wonderful place. The natural sunlight in the foreground of the scenery is just super and brightens up this landscape even more. I am sure just being there feels like being in dreamland. Thanks for sharing this little piece of bliss. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi NIek.
Your decision is right. As a result wonderful post, lovely place and top-quality of the image. I like nice POV and framing of the scene, The widest DOF, great details and pleasant play of sunlight and shadows. Colour palette is very impressive too. Well done and TFS.

Hello Niek

Beautiful landscape scenery from Norway,
fine POV and i love the wide angle framing,

coming to the right side of the image
and the contrast between the warmer and
colder color tones, TFS

Hello Niek,
Obviously missed this fine shot. Your last shots are both beautiful and taken with a very similar point of view. On this one I like the fine tints created by the evening sun on the rocks. It creates a subtle color-contrast which I appreciate much. Excellent composition as usual.
Take care! Amitiés

Hi Niek

Really nice to see you taking a photography trip and especially to such a remote but rewarding location as the Lofoten Islands :)
Although my Norwegian experience was surely different, i'm sure there were similarities and i think we both acknowledge the country as a Mecca for landscape photography. Moreover, i'm pretty sure i'll go there again this year - sometime in early September and somewhere around Tromso :)

Now to the image - this is a true beauty. I love the light on both the foreground rocks and the distant mountains and sky. I particularly love the striped side of the second mountain - a great focal point and contrast and attractive element.
The 0.9 grad definitely evened out the exposure very well and gave you plenty of detail in the foreground. Wonderful work, my friend!

Cheers and TFS
PS: i took a look at the rest of the photo from your website...absolutely gorgeous!!!

I'm sorry to be late for your fantastic scenery series from Lofoten, a place I always wanted to visit! This is a very beautiful composition showing great depth and nice focus on the glimpse of light on the rock in the foreground. Beautiful sky too and fantastic colours!
