[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a close-up of a female White-faced meadow hawk (Sympetrum obtrusum). I don't think I could have ever tried this with any other species. These female Meadow hawks are so trusting, much more so than any another I have encountered. I met one at local park that would sit on a branch and then routinly jump up to pick off mosquitos that would buzz around my head. Who says bugs don't have personalites. I think this one is flossing with a stick.

Description: Meadowhawk with snow white face, black abdomonal markings, and black legs. Male: Eyes red-brown over pale-greenish to grayish; face white; Thorax brown, may look paler on sides than front with faint indication of ventrolateral triangles on S4-8, most of lower s9 is black. Appendages reddish. Female, eyes reddish brown over pale greenish; face pale yellowhish. Thorax brown in front, lighter brown on sides with pale yellowish areas below. Some females become red as in other meadowhawks but rarely seen in this species.

Habitat Shallow marshes, bogs, and fens that may or may not dry up each summer; also similar habitats at edges of lakes. Often most commom meadowhawk in cold, boggy wetlands, and associated with forest over most of its range.

Distribution: In North America from coast to coast, south to Kentucky, Virginia and Mayland. In mountains in southern part of its range.

Hello Denis,
This is simply beautiful with wonderful colours and great sharpness on the head and torso. Your informative note, IMO, is of the right sort of length - does not put one off reading it by excessive length. Thank you and best wishes.
