The subject

An interesting mushroom encountered during my visit in the plantations close from the city of Binga, in Democratic Republic of Congo.

There are some evidence to think that it is :

Division : Basidiomycota
Class : Agaricomycetes
Order : Russulales
Family : Russulaceae
Genus : Lactarius, Pers., 1797

Regrding the specie, it becomes quite difficult to give the true name. If somebody has an idea, he will be welcome.

In the photography we see some characteristics of the family :

Many members of this type are concentrically zoned more or less marked ; this zoning is alternately darker and lighter on the fruiting body.

Moreover, the general trend of this fungus is to display a central depression in its development.

As so often in this family, this fungus is not entitled to a rating of good or very good eating quality. In fact, my guides have confirmed that they did'nt eat this fungus.

The shooting

The photography has been taken in the morning, close to 07:00 a.m.. At that time, in equatorial Africa the lighting conditions are not good : it is just the dawn. So, i have chosen the following parameters :

Sensitivity : ISO-80 (to avoid pixelisation of the picture)
apperture : F/3.5 (due to the lake of light)
Focal length : 6 mm.

With those parameters, the speed has been established at 1/60 th. seconds.

Post treatment

gamma : Improving the gamma (70% of the initial gamma rate)
sharpenning : amelioration with the soft of Olympus
contrast, colors : improving with Corel photopaint;
Cropping : re cropping from 3648 x 2736 pixel to 1719 x 1719 pixel and there after, resizing to 800 x 800 pixel, according the policy of the site.
