It looked and flew fast like a yellow jacket. By eye that's what I thought. Looking at it in flight and cropped it looks possibly like a hover fly but I'm sticking with yellow jacket because they are all over the place. This time of year they know winter is not too far and they will sting anything in sight.

I forgot to add my lens so it isn't as stated. It is a Sigma 70-220 with macro..an old lens with a K mount for the Pentax.

Hello Bob,

It's not the magical color & clarity of this composition that I like the best. It's the POV that enables us to view this moment from nature exactly as a flea sitting on a nearby leaf would have.

Regards,

Derek

Hi Bob,

The flower is helping to frame the bee. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the bee in flight. The good luminosity is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Bob,
Looks like a Flower Fly, possibly (Syrphus ribesii). Excellent sharp focus on this attractive inflight image. Nicely composed with good DOF and great detail. Well done!!
I have yet to capture an inflight shot like this, but hopefully someday it will come.
Ron

Perfect! Excellent composition, detail and light. Very good for an insect in flight.
I think its a hover fly rather than a yellow jacket. regards yiannis
