Lesser Yellowlegs / Petit Chevalier
Tringa flavipes

Size: 23-28 cm

Nature Notes: Rare during spring migration in our region but common in the fall, the Lesser Yellowlegs stops here along the coast and in wetlands in order to "refuel" during its long migration south. It nests mainly in the central and western Arctic regions of Canada and Alaska, mainly in large bogs and clearings in the boreal forest.

About this image: My colleague and I watched this individual for almost an hour in the lagoon at Callendars Beach in Kouchibouguac while out doing a dragonfly survey. It actually approached us on several occasions, seemingly totally oblivious to our presence while we were doing our work.

Hi Denis,
Beautiful photo of this nice training bird.
Nice colours good pose and sharpness details.
Regards Jiri.

A well timed capture of the bird stretching a leg, perhaps to deal with a cramp, Denis.
Remarkable use of ambient light with very natural colours on the subject.
Thanks and regards.

Hallo Denis
What a striking image, and the details so crystal clear. This image of the Lesser Yellowlegs looks as if it has just been washed and hanged up in to dry. It is beautiful. I like the natural sunlight that emphasise the prominent details on the bird's feathers. Thanks for sharing, and a belated welcome to Trek Nature. I have been on holiday when you joined the site. I took a quick glimps at the rest of the photos in your gallery and they are beautiful. Best regards.

Bonjour Denis,

Exceptionally well exposured photo with beautiful pose of the bird and incredible clearness. I love the double-diagonal composition also. Masterful job, congratulations!

Although an American species which lives on the seaside, it was already seen 6 times (firstly in 1959) in my home country, (Hungary, Central Europe, without seaside at all) - it was the 1st North-American bird species in our fauna. Just an interesting local fact.

Tfs, best regards, László

Hello Denis,
