This is just another photo of lovely spider ;)

These are very interesting cretures and superb models as well, hence they are one of my favourite subjects.

The spider that sits so calmly on my hand belongs to Araneidae family. These are well known Orb Weavers that build beautiful webs. I'm far from being expert yet, but I think the ID of family is correct, cause these spiders have quite characteristic look and the web they sit on is also a big clue ;)

Thanks to Philippe I have the right ID :)

So this seems to be a female of Araneus quadratus known in Poland as Meadow Cross spider.
It's body coloration varies considerably, from dark reddish brown to pale yellow or green, but it always has four white spots on its abdomen and banded legs.
This spider is often slightly bigger than Araneus diadematus, especially when full of eggs. It can be found on low vegetation in grassland and heathland. It commonly makes a meal of grasshoppers that jump into its web.

Why the spider is sitting on my hand?
When I saw her and move a bit closer to the web she started to climb on the grass blade. I just touched the grass and the spider climbed on my finger.

I know some of you can't even imagine touching a spider, not to mention have it walking on your hand ;)
But this isn't dangerous at all [ I'm thinking about small, european spiders of course ;)] though I understand that it may be quite scary for some.

The spider won't bite you for sure if he will feel safe and you won't hurt him.
Animals usually atack only when they have a good reason and it's good to remember that.

Beautifull portret of the spider.

Hi Monika,

Usually I don't really like hands in the frame, but this time it works very well as the spider really looks like a ring. :) The hand is very well exposed aswell btw (and that's something we don't see that often;)). I like this picture and the title & good note completes it. TFS!

Ps-You've got very nice nails. :)

Lovely picture, and I like the approach of dispelling the fancy notion that spiders have to be 'ugly' ;>)
This looks like Araneus quadratus to me. Was the web rather close to the ground ?

Hello Monika, Very nice capture (nice manicure also) ;-) Well composed with great colors, POV and details. I like the great red color and markings seen in the abdomen here. Well done!

Hi Monika,
is it realy sitting on your hand?
I like nature very much, but I never had such good nervs for this. Ääääääähhhh!
My respect, also for the wonderful shot with one hand. Excellent sharpness and colours.
I like it very much, thanks
Sabine - wishnugaruda

If I could give you 100 smilies for this shot I would - purely for letting her sit on your hand!
This is great Monika, especially for an obviously one handed shot.
Great detail and composition. The colours are really warm.
Good title, she does look like a ring on your finger.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Monika,

Excellent shot of the spider with fine details. You did very well with the focus. Excellent work. 11/10 :) :)

Great shot! You are very brave. I caught a spider almost identical to that except it is brown instead of red. It's strange because it only has 6 legs so either this type of spider only has 6 legs or he got in a nasty fight and lost a couple. Maybe I will have to post a picture of it on here. God Bless

Very good shot Monika,
Another post dedicated to me!!!!!hehe
Very good exposure, nicely composed, good colours and well detailed. As always good notes and nicely framed.
Very well captured, thanks for posting

Hi Monika :-), very nice shot of this species. I never see the red colouration here, I see the cream variety..I want the red!

Very nice detailed shot and she certainly looks healthy. Very nice work.

I have read that some of these larger Araneus spiders can inflict a bite to a human - it does swell but is not that painful. I reckon you'd have to force them to bite though because I've picked up many and have never been nipped. :-)

Do have have manicure before these shots?

Well done.

PS. Talking of biting spiders, in medeval times it was reported that some people ate spiders. In the 50's a researcher tasted a selection and this species came out on top - it apparently has a nutty flavour.

Beautiful ring you've got there!

@ philip: You can see the spiders last(fourth) leg on the left side, behind the first leg :)

Even for a spider lover like myself this does seem a bit daring. Spider bites are quite painfull. It is a very nice specimen and very nicely portrait here.

I don't think I am quite ready to taste it though. There must be something "nutty" in tasting spiders.

Always something interesting in your work. :)

More well deserved points !

Points now, note after work ;-)

Hi Monika
Ok here we have a beautiful spider on quite so beautiful hands!
This is a very sharp and colourful shot. I believe you
when you said that it's not dangerous at all but this red color
does not inspire me confidence... Do you know that funny theme
for insects and animals on hand? Well done! I really
appreciate your work.

Hi Monika! This one got my attention while browsing your galleries: excellent depth of field and mise en scène (on your hand). And the story, one of your strength, is very interesting. It is always a pleasure to look at your pics.
