[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a Six-spotted Tiger Beetle, Cicindela sexguttata, a common insect in this are, often seen on woodland trails as they run rapidly about in seek of prey. They're fierce hunters who run their prey down and devour it alive.
They're a bright, iridescent green with typically six white spots (although the number of spots is variable, this one had eight) really beautiful if you can get a close look at one, but that isn't easy as they tend to fly if you get too close. This one, for some reason, let me shove my camera right into its face. |
