Black-backed Jackal
close to our camp in Seronera region of Serengeti (Medium-camp)
There was a family of Black-backed Jackals close to the camp (about 100 meters) but you never saw them at noon when coming back to the tented lodge. This picture was taken in the very early morning, just after sunrise, but the sun was still hidden behind the mountains of Ngorongoro, thus the f/4.0 stop and 1/50 exposure time. Of 6 pictures, only 2 were sharp. The colors and contrast could have easily been improved with photoshop, but I only did minor changes to keep the darkish ambiance of very early morning. Tomorrow I will post a picture of three puppies of Black-backed Jackals taken at the same spot but in the evening, just after sunset.

Hallo Tom
One great portrait with sharp focus on its prominent features. Just love the "stare" and rigid ears. Thanks for sharing a super image. Best regards.

Stunning image Tom. Lovely subtle colours and sharpness. If any criticism is to be given, I find the blade of grass slightly distracting. Beautiful animal captured so well. Tfs.
