Copper-Throated Sunbird
(Nectarinia calcostetha) 朱喉花蜜鸟
Size: 14 cm
Description:
Fairly large, slender build. Male appear uniformly dark, but purple breast and belly and green cap shine in good lighting. Female has a diagnostic grayish head and under-parts; upper-parts dark olive.
Voice:
A characteristic long trill; also a rapid twitter.
Habits:
A coastal specialist found exclusively in tidal mangrove forests and in casuarinas and coconut groves just behind the sea. A very local species that is sometimes quite numerous in the ideal habitat. It’s a conspicuous, vocal and active bird. It’ll visits flowering trees and bushes; often seen flying quickly from tree to tree in a frantic search for food.
Distribution:
Uncommon resident breeder and occurs only parts of Singapore. |
