Hello friends,
the Pileated Woodpecker in-flight.

1/1250s f/8.0 ISO1000
fully zoomed 50mm (35mm eq:75mm)
and cropped around 60% from the original.

from the All About Birds website

« Nearly as large as a crow,
the Pileated Woodpecker is the largest
woodpecker in most of North America.
Its loud ringing calls and huge,
rectangular excavations in dead
trees announce its presence in
forests across the continent. »

Merci

Asbed

Wow! Check out how jagged the wings are on this guy. I've never seen the wings this close. Great to see Asbed. It's a very clear picture. I guess your shutter speed is responsible. The ISO must keep the picture from being too noisy. A very original shot Asbed. Later. Trevor

Hello Asbed,
I would be thrilled to just get a shot of one of these guys, let alone managed to capture such a fine in-flight shot as this. I usually end up just getting a fleeting glimpse of these large birds before they quickly disappear into the tree tops. Great work!!

Hi Asbed,

Nice balance between iso and shutter speed. You must have been at the ready as he came in! Nice even through the branches. Were you lying on your back to get this shot?

Best,

Mike

Hello Asbed,

Hello Asbed,
The skills you acquired with your compacts have really come to use with your new DSLR equipment. Even though there are some branches in the way this in-flight capture of the Pileated Woodpecker is pin sharp and the features as shown from directly below are clear with excellent WB in a good composition.
Well done and TFS!
Ivan

Hallo Asbed
You captured the outstreched wings of this Pileated Woodpecker beautifully from this angle, and one can even see the little red "cap" of feathers on its head. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna

Hi Asbed!
In spite of the branches you captured the bird in a fantastic pose: in flight, with the wings all open!
Perfect sharpness and nice lighting.
Very well done: congratulations!

Bonjour Asbed,

Les branches cadrent bien l'oiseau. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs du Grand Pic en vol. Le ciel gris ne nuit pas au rendu des couleurs. Bonne journée.

Pierre

Hello Asbed.
This is brilliant spread and you have positioned yourself nicely to get the diagonal framing. The signature red on the head makes this image.
Regards.
