Oenanthe oenanthe (Linnaeus 1758). Male.
Northern Wheatear or Wheatear

Oenanthe oenanthe is a small passerine of the family Saxicolidae. It is the most widespread member of the wheatear genus Oenanthe in Europe and Asia. It is larger than the European Robin at 14½–16 cm length. Both sexes have a white rump and tail, with a black inverted T-pattern at the end of the tail. The summer plumaged male has grey upperparts, buff throat and black wings and face mask. In autumn it resembles the female apart from the black wings. The female is pale brown above and buff below with darker brown wings.
Oenanthe oenanthe is a migratory species breeding in open stony country in Europe and Asia with footholds in northeastern Canada and Greenland as well as in northwestern Canada and Alaska. It nests in rock crevices and hollows. All populations winter in Africa.

In Cyprus Oenanthe oenanthe is a very common passage migrant.

Masterpiece of a picture, Chris.
Wheatears are rarely seen on TN, so this is a significant contribution to this site.
A real life-like capture of this beautiful bird.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Chris,

It seems like every bird is posing for you. How do you manage? The grey background fits well and sharpness and pose are superb.

Beautiful picture Chris!
Very well captured the bird with good details & sharpness.
Taken from a nice low POV with lovely BG. Well done & TFS.

Hi Chris,
Fantastic visual impact. Excellent compo, sharpness and DoF. Probably the colors are IMHO just a touch more in the cyan direction than the optimal, but probably it's my opinion only. Otherwise an exceptional image. Bravo.
Best regards, László

Hi Christodoulos.
Brilliant job. Fantastic reproduction of the beautiful species. Exposure is fantastic as well as impressive surroundings. All together they create a true masterpiece. Bravo.

Hi, Chris
Another "studio quality" portrait of this attractive species. The crisp Cypriot lighting is clearly an important element of your trademark bird portraits, but excellent technical quality once again. Our first wheatear of Spring made landfall on the local coast yesterday.
Best wishes, Nigel.

Bonjour Christodoulos,
Lovely scene ! Very peaceful picture undelined by the subtle colors of the background. Perfect pose of the bird too, posed on this little rock. The green branches in the background make a pleasant color-contrast.
Well seen again!
Bon dimanche!

Hello Christodoulos.
This is one beautiful clean shot at the bird. Vivid details against the silenced background. Good shot and thanks for sharing.
