Ophrys cretica ssp beloniae
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|This was the only plant we found on our trip.|
In Rhodes they had a very dry winter.
Subspecies, related to Ophrys cretica but with early flowering time like Ophrys ariadnae (March - early April) and characteristic pink perianth (pink sepals and reddish petals) and a speculum that occupies the entire lip length. It has strange distribution as in Rhodes it can be found only in the southern part of the island and, outside Rhodes, it is growing also in Naxos, from where it was originally described by Kretzschmar, on 1996.
