Class: Insecta

Order: Lepidoptera

Superfamily: Papilionoidea

Family: Nymphalidae

Genus: Issoria

Species: I. lathonia

The Queen of Spain Fritillary (Issoria lathonia) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common in southern Europe, migrating as far north as south Scandinavia every summer. It is a very rare visitor to the British Isles. Heat-dependent, this species is found breeding on the hottest places of the foodplants of the larvae (prefers Viola tricolor and Viola arvensis). The adult is a strong flyer, and may be found anywhere but forests.
The eggs of this species are laid on the Wild Pansy ( Viola tricolor).

ISSORIA LATHONIA

Ciao Luciano,
Lathonia is a real beauty when she has her wings closed, as captured here with fine sharpness, DOF and klight management. The silver patches shine nicely despite the difficult lighting and the colours are natural.
Nice one and thanks for sharing it!
Best regards,
Ivan

Ciao Luciano!
Bravissimo: complimenti.
ciao e buona notte! Vanda
