[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I present another endemic animal species from Madeira Island.

It is the butterfly
- Pararge xiphia
- family: Nymphalidae
- subfamily: Satyrinae

The genus Pararge comprises 3 Europena species,
the wide-spread P. aegeria and 2 endemic species,
P. xiphioides for the Canary Islands and P. xiphia for Madeira.

As for the genus Hipparchia (see one of my last pictures), the Satyrine genus Pararge is also represented by an endemic species on Madeira. Pararge xiphia is not very common and besides that also rather shy. Therefore I obtained only one picture of the species. Although the quality is not satisfying, I present it here for documentation.
Besides Pararge xiphia, P. aegeria also occurs on Madeira (see earlier posted picture).

Dear Peter,

This is a well taken closeup capture from a beautiful butterfly against a lush green BG!
Light is well handled in order to unveil the tender textures of the wings of butterfly.
The colors are natural and DOF is excellent.
Nice work!

Best regards,
Paras

Hallo Peter,
schöne Aufnahme von der Madeira-Variante des Waldbrettspiels. Dein POV war vielleicht nicht der allerbeste, aber die schwierige Belichtung hast du dafür meines Erachtens gekonnt gelöst.
Viele Grüße,
Helmut
