couldn't shoot this dragonfly from any other angle than this one. if i tried from its front, the sun was coming against my cam.. and if gone towards my right, the fence was there... hence, not an option. so, confined in one particular place i had to photograph this dragonfly which i could see through a small opening only and was at far :)

managed few shots. somehow.
the main problem was not the photograph, but the ID. i had searched for its ID... thoroughly... for many days... but no result. then gave up, and started looking for the ID of another dragonfly... golden coloured... that i had in my collection. the golden coloured dragonfly appeared to be an Eastern Amberwing male. when i searched for its images... i found THIS dragonfly. yes, a female of the same species! :):)

what do you call it? magic? :)

so okay. this is an Eastern Amberwing (Perithemis tenera) dragonfly and a female. this is a North-American dragonfly. a small dragonfly... short in size, just like its male counterpart. both genders have a red pterostigma.

Hi Ruby,
That is a lovely photo.Never seen that type before. The green leave with the fly on the end of it looks great.
Enjoy the weekend and enjoy taking some more nice photos!
Kind regards
Steve

you captured a nice macro within your camera limitation. I am also like the composition, which is improved! :)

Technically, this picture of the female Amberwing is better than that of the male, Ruby. The POV you were confined to is actually a blessing in disguise. All the features of the dragonfly, especially the colours on its eye, are well captured here with excellent sharpness.
Thanks and keep it going!
Ram

Hello Ruby,
I prefer the picture of the female because of the better focussing and the nicely blurred background. I think that this POV works quite well and I also like the natural cololurs.
Best wishes,
Helmut

Ruby, this is such a great shot of this dragonfly. Great sharpness and bokeh. bill
