it was sunset time and the Sun was almost against my camera. sorry for that. otherwise my first sighting of and my first shot on a new (to me) Woodpecker could have been more exciting.

but am happy. i just love woodpeckers. and see, i have got one more!

i had no idea of its ID when i took this shot. but i could understand it was a Woodpecker. the bird was sitting there calmly.. frequently looking here and there. what i loved most about this bird was a bright red 'love-sign' just behind its head!!! my mother Nature is surely crazy! :D

well, this is a Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus). the 'Yellow-shafted' species. and a female.

and guess what? i found this new bird... once again... in my 'treasure island' only.

Beauty of a shot Ruby. I love how clear the focus is on the eye. The DOF is good and shows off the branches in the background well. I love the white sky also. It really shows off the bird well. Great details and a wonderful compostion. Well shot!

P.S.- What Mega Pixel did you shoot this at? Trevor

Good morning Ruby(now 6 O'clock morning).
I love this picture because it is captured so nicely and professionally with your non professional camera. sharpness, light management, colour and PoV is perfect. for me, i prefer little space on the left side, that's all.
with my best wishes.

Hello Ruby,
Great shot of this attractive Northern Flicker. I have yet to capture a photo of one of these beautiful woodpeckers. The exposure on the bird is great, considering you had such a bright white sky to work with as a BG.
The bird is shown very well, and his colorful plumage and unique markings are a real treat to view. You even got that ever sought after catchlight in his eye. Excellent focus and you couldn't have asked for a nicer pose, which gives us a great view of his features and colorful plumage.

Ciao Ruby, great capture of beautiful bird in nice pose, fine details, wonderful colors and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Gooooo ...ood day dear Ruby! Hope you are fine! Great to see some excellent work from you again. I can clearly see that you are not treating your image with some kind of Mikey Mouse Post processing ..however I feel that some nice adjustments can be done here in order to make the image even more impressive. And why not ....this is a difficult shot. The camera has managed to capture some lovely shadow detail where the highlights naturally has been almost completely washed away. But that is understandable, because no camera can record the kind of color gamut our eye is capable to see. Well done nicely taken shot indeed.
Please, Ruby have a look my proposed contraption ... hope you like it! Have a great day my friend!

Hello Ruby,
Very nice photo of this Northern Flicker in good sharpness and details. A bit more contrast is possible I think, but these natural colours are fine too. Not easy with this backlight. Pleasing pose with eye contact.
Have a good weekend,
