Here's one of a baby Common Loon I took awhile back. It was being fed by it's mother nearby. The mother would feed it crawfish she would get from diving to the bottom. The baby was learning diving habit I believe.

They make underwater fishing dives of up to 200 feet below the surface. They are adapted for diving with heavy bones and eyes that can focus both in air and water. |

Hi Trevor,
I'd say a teenager. I love loons and grebes, had the chance to shoot an adult this summer on iceland, see link below. This is a nice shot, he/she seems to be sneaking away after raiding the cooky jar (or fish pond :))
