Dear friends and visitors,

Among many of my shrubs I found this strange flower.I have no idea about its ID.Please, help me to find it.Thanks!

Nice week to everybody!
Big hug from,

PS: This flower was well identified by Yiannis Christofides well as ALPINIA ZERUMBERT.Thanks YIANNIS!!!!I appreciated it!!!

Alpinia zerumbet (Light galangal, Pink porcelain lily, Shell flower, Shell ginger, Variegated ginger, Butterfly ginger.Native to eastern Asia, this plant is a rhizomatous, ever green tropical perennial that grows in upright clumps 8–10 feet tall in tropical climates. It bears funnel-formed flowers. Flowers have white or pink perianths with yellow labella with red spots and stripes. There are three stamens, but only one has pollen. There is one pistil. The fruit is globose with many striations. In more typical conditions, it reaches 4–8 feet tall in the green house, and 3–4 feet tall, as a house plant. It is called a shell ginger or shell flower most commonly, because its individual pink flowers, especially when in bud, resemble sea shells.

Hi Ana

Very good shot of the flower, perfect exposure and good sharpness. I wonder what the name of this beautiful species is, perhaps one of our Treknature botanists can help.

Bonjour Ana,

What a lovely composition, Ana! I like the flower crossing the image.
Perfect sharpness and nice, soft light.
Very good the choice of the format.
Well done my friend: Congratulations.
The flower (new for me , of course) is very nice and interesting.
Ciao and um abrsaço! Vanda :))

Hallo Ana
I have not seen you around on the site for some time and while browsing through the gallery I came across this photo you posted in September. I thought the flower looks a lot like the wild ginger we have here in South Africa and when I read your note I saw that you mention the word "ginger" a few times as well. The details and bright colours of the inside of the flower is just so gorgeous and you have captured it beautifully. I like the frontal point of view as well as the composition. Thanks for sharing.
I hope to see another posting from you soon, but in the meantime I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and may 2013 bring you all that you hope for.

Hello Ana
such an exotic flower seen in its best features and details.
The photo shows both the opened and the unopened flowers and that is so lively.
Very thoughtful composition.
