This picture of an arctic skua taking off is one of the best I got of these birds. Together with the Arctic terns they rule the skies over Iceland. The terns are numerous and fearless, the skuas just plain pirates and aerobats chasing all kinds off birds untill they drop their fish. This is a dark phase bird with a white patch on its wings which I understood is typical for the icelandic population

What a beauty and how lucky to have caught the bird flying over the ground. The environment with the small purple and yellow flowers and the fine green background are of great beauty. Very well chosen point of view. A most attractive shot.
