Macrocystidia cucumis

Again, I could not find the exact match for this one, although I have spent quite a lot of time looking for it and asking some fungi masters, but everyone is surprised with the extremely black stem. The big one had about 5 Cm. of diameter and maybe 10 of hight.

It looks very much like a Collybia, but I did not find the black stem. After posting, Robert sent a new ident, Macrocystidia cucumis, that is much more suitable than mine, specially this photo.

PHOTO

With this "coal colour" stem and the ilumination of a rainy day it was very difficult to take this shot, and if flash is used, you will get a overexposed surface and textures will be gone, so I managed this way. The stem was so black, that it seemed to absorve the light around it :D

The collybias as well as other fungi like Hygrosphorous family are Hygroscopic.
An Hygroscopic or Hydroscopic substance is a substance that absorbs water readily from its surroundings.
In this one I wanted to show the sort of "gel" or mucus that is formed by the surface of the top of the mushroom.
When there is plenty of moisture, we can see some bright and sticky surface on this fungi. But when it rains the quantity of water absorved is so much that the surface becomes jelly. The textures become wonderfull then.

I think it looks like a desert ! Doesn´t it look tasty?

Hope you like.

Fantastic, great shot Felipe. I love both views but prefer the left one and the slime on top. Excellent note too. Thanks for posting.

Ça me donne des idées. Merci de partager.

Tiene l'air apetecible, esta seta. Bravo Felipe. J'aime bien estas presentaciones en dos imágenes. Se ve el mismo tema bajo dos ángulos diferentes. Eso me da ideas. Gracias de compartir.

Great shot Felipe.
Very good colours and DOF.
Well done.

tres bon panorama !
j'aime particulierement la vut de gauche qui est vraiment tres bien prise, les couleurs sont superbe, une nettete impecable....
bref une belle photo de plus ;)

Felipe, you keep on fascinating me with these fungi. Caramel it is! Your work is fantastic, you could publish your own book by now! :) Keep 'em comming.

Lovely slimey textures and colour on the main shot.

This really looks salubrious, and this from a guy who does not eat mushrooms at all. So, I can be an old, bold mushroom hunter, because my interest is the shooting, not the eating!
Very nice one, Felipe!

Excellent and very well presented work.
Great detail and colours, especially the slimy surface.
Very well done.

Hi fillepe, this is some image, the slimmy texture is superb and the lighting is a great, especially the left one a real little elf grotto.
Ident wise I had a look round the various collybias and had no luck either, the closest in my books was the following Macrocystidia cucumis the picture I have looks very simular right down to the mosses, have a look at these and see what you think?

Excellent capture Felipe. I especially like the composition in the right frame. Absolutely wonderful colours and lot of details.
