Hello friends, this photo it is
from my spring 2007 archives,
I was 2 months old new with
my Fujifilm bridge camera.

Here is the history of this photo :
When first I saw this Hooded Merganser
I was at the other side of the pond,
I did an approach it fly-up, when I
saw him again in the pond I decide
to run up I did the tour of the pond
to come on this side and decide to double
the zoom of my camera becoming a digital
600mm zoomm in 35mm eq.

With the American Kestrel the Hooded Merganser
it is the most fearful bird I have seen.

1/1200s f/4.9 ISO200 66.7mm (35mm eq:300mm)
here the zoom was doubled becoming
a digital 600mm zoomm in 35mm eq.

Doubling the zoom it become digital
and i lost on the image quality,
on this photo I gived no cropping to
not loose more on the image quality.

from the All About Birds website

« “Hooded” is something of an understatement
for this extravagantly crested little duck.
Adult males are a sight to behold, with sharp
black-and-white patterns set off by
chestnut flanks. Females get their own
distinctive elegance from their cinnamon crest.

Hooded Mergansers are fairly common on small ponds
and rivers, where they dive for fish, crayfish,
and other food, seizing it in their thin,
serrated bills. They nest in tree cavities;
the ducklings depart with a bold leap to the
forest floor when only one day old. »

Merci

Asbed

Hi Asbed, you pay a bit the distance talking about the size of the bird on the pic,but not talking about the details, beautiful like the reflections on the water, great contrast and nice composition too.Have a nice evening,Luciano

A very interesting bird Asbed. I've taken 2 or 3 shots of this type. Their headdress is georgeous. The only thing I would have done to this is cut off that shadow in the water in the top right-hand corner. I think that is would still be framed well enough. Nice colours and even the detail considering the distance. A very tranguil shot to enjoy. TFS Trevor

Hello Asbed,
I have yet to photograph one of these little beauties. I know they occasionally visit my area, but I haven't seen any except flying overhead a few times. You must have been thrilled to view one in the open water like this.

I have a photo of a male and female together but it isn't as good as your. I had to do a lot of sneaking around to get it. I think you did well. TFS

Bonjour Asbed,
Ai manqué quelques unes de tes images. J'aime bien celle-ci avec sa présentation minimaliste. Un oiseau spécial aussi, ce canard à la tête noire et blanche.
Bonne fin de semaine!
Amitiés
Anne
