Cardoon flower, Cynara cardunculus, is a member of the thistle family and related to the Globe Artichoke.
The stalk can be blanched and eaten. The plant requires a 5 months cool growing period and is frost sensitive.
it grows to about 100cm in heights and the striking violet-blue flowers are 10cm across and attract bees and rose chafers, wasps. They grow wild in my garden
