Lucky Ring-necked Dove 3.

I want to post a real wildlife scene (which consists of five photographs) I witnessed at the Chudop water hole in Etosha National Park. Technically it is far from perfect but I think well worth sharing an experience in nature. It was taken at 07:50 AM from a distance of 98.3 meters across the waterhole and in fairly bad light conditions.

Number 1.
One morning I saw this Jackal circling the waterhole while literally hundreds of Ring-necked doves were drinking water. When he saw that a Dove is occupied quenching it’s thirst, he would stop, crouch and go for the prey. On occasions he was lucky and sometimes he came up short and that is why I call these five uploads “Lucky Ring-necked Dove”.

Number 2.
When the Dove noticed the Jackal, the jackal lunged forward towards its intended prey, again before I could focus on him or the Dove.

Number 3.
The Jackal caught its prey by the tail feathers as the Dove tried to take off.
Enjoy and comments are welcome.

Brilliant, Carl.
Rare event and nice timing. I would have omitted to post pic#2 as pics 1 and 3 are way beter, and 2 doesn't bring any plus at the displayed action.

Ciao Carl, lovely composition with fashinating reflection, splendid light, wonderful colors and excellent clarity, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

From the first 3 shots this is the best one,

That's the one!

Hallo Carl
This is a great "true to nature" shot and I am sure you was quite excited when this scenario played off in front of you and even more so that you where able to capture the moment of action. I would also love to capture a scene like this. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Bonjour Carl,
Très belle troisième scène de la vie sauvage capturée dans de difficiles conditions.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.

Hi Carl

Superb moment to capture. The lunge of the jackal and the efforts of the dove both demonstrate maximum effort both on part of the predator and prey. Who wins is down to luck.

Hello Carl,
The best one yet!! Love the way the jackal's tail is held high and to the side for balance. You can clearly see the tight hold it has on the dove. Perfectly timed shot!!

Hallo Carl,
Prachtige actie foto met uitstekende timing. Een goed overzicht van wat hier werkelijk gebeurt. Mooie natuurlijke kleuren en goede scherpte in een prima compositie.

An incredible series indeed Carl! Bravo! Seems to me that 1/1250s was not enough to freeze completely the action !
