"Timsah Kuşu" = "Crocodile Bird"

Hi friends,
Several days ago, I posted first post of my Egypt trip. Today, I have uploaded first post from my Sudan tour. It is very special bird and one of dream species for most birdwatchers as like me: The famous Pluvianus aegypticus - Timsah Kuşu, Mısır Yağmurcunu [TR], Egyptian Plover [EN].
It is also sometimes called to as the "Crocodile Bird (=Timsah Kuşu)" and this name was originated from a myth (unconfirmed symbiotic relationship with crocodiles, clearing between teeth of these reptiles). Nobody can support for more than 2000 years (a story dating to Herodotus). But it is still famous and popular. Formerly it was placed in its own monotypic family PLUVIANIDAE, it is now regarded as the sole member of the subfamily Pluvianinae, part of the pratincole and courser family, GLAREOLIDAE.
The Egyptian Plover ranges locally in tropical sub-Saharan Africa as a resident bird and it breeds on sandbars in large rivers.
In Sudan, we found it four localities, incl. capital city Khartoum. If this species dosen't occur in Sudan, I would not go to there:)
The shot was taken from ground and camera on hand, when we were waiting small ferry on the Nile. 5-6 individuals feed on grass, among resting people.

This is indeed a prize shot of an exotic Plover from Egypt, Dr Ahmet. I think we have seen this species for the first time on TN. Congratulations!
It is a beautiful capture from an angle that shows all the features and colours of this bird remarkably well.
Hope you had a wonderful trip to north Africa.

Hello Ahmet,
Very beautiful photo of this Egyptian Plover. Excellent sharpness and etails in beautiful colours. Taken from a very good low POV. Beautiful blurred background. The last time I saw this bird was in the South of Ethiopia in 2008.

Hello Ahmet, Congratulations on your accomplishment!!
I too have heard about this particular bird, but as you already it may be just a myth. A real beauty and captured perfectly by your lens. I love the black markings, especially the way it drapes over it's shoulder and down under it's breast. Excellent detail and just the right amount of exposure. Well done!!

amazing capture of this African bird, extremely rare here, greetings Ori

Salam and Merhaba Prof Ahmet
wow...another lovely presentation in excellent sharpness and clarity. The soft blurry foreground is so exciting to see too. The eye contact is so good and it gives a meaningful composition. Well seen with excellent details.
