Calandria grande -Mimus saturninus-

Permanece mucho tiempo en el suelo observando, mientras balancea su cola se desplaza con cortas carreritas en busca de insectos, lombrices y otros pequeños invertebrados que forman su principal alimento.
Excelente cantor, imita sonidos agudos y una gama de tonos intermedios, que combina de múltiple formas. Sorprende su facultad de copiar la voz de otras aves y de otros animales, además, llega a imitar el relincho de un caballo. Esta característica originó la denominación de su género: Mimus, que justamente significa “aquel que imita”.
No son gregarios ni migradores. Permanecen en su territorio, que al parecer le tienen apego y además lo defienden cuando anidan, impidiendo las incursiones de los rivales dentro de sus límites.
Su nido es una estructura abierta, profunda, hecha de ramitas pequeñas, raíces, sobre árboles o arbustos. Los huevos de color crema con manchas castañas miden 28 x 20 mm.
