Kingfisher species number 3 from my Selous, Tanzania trip. Today, probably the most common African KF.
The Pied Kingfisher. Here shot just after getting th catch of the day.

Widely distributed in East Africa in the vicinity of water. The only black and white kingfisher in Africa.
Size 25cm.

Hello Ronny,
This little birds body appears to be rather streamlined and not quite as bulky as many other kingfishers. I really like it's unique markings and tiny hair tuff. You managed to capture some exceptional detail and gorgeous natural colors. Photographing it with a fish in it's beak is a real bonus. Great job!!

A very interesting specie. Lovely colors and details.
They are a very few birds in my region at the moment....The migratory birds are gone....I am waiting for spring and I hope they will return as usual....
