Another shot of the Giant Kingfisher.

Despite its size, the giant kingfisher can remain unseen, as it sits motionlessly for long periods. The favourite food of this specie of kingfisher is crab, and the bits of shell and limbs of crabs are seen around the perches of giant kingfisher. They also feed on fishes, regurgitating the fish scales. The bird dives into the water, grabs the fish in its large beak, and then returns to its perch, where it will beat the fish against the branch and swallow it head first. The giant kingfisher hunts mostly from its perch, usually situated above water. When it is out to sea, it will hover and then dive onto its prey from the air, uttering its call as it flies low over the water.
The giant kingfishers nest in burrows that are excavated approximately one metre below the top of a vertical bank. The tunnel is between two and eight metres long, and it ends in a chamber that is about 30 cm in diameter. The female lays between three and five white round eggs. There is no record of the incubation and nestling periods.

Ronny, thanks for this wonderful capture of this beautiful Megaceryle maxima. It's amazing the quality of the details of the bird obtained at the same instant it flies from its perch. Thanks for this picture, friend.

Hello Ronny,
Wow! This is professional work! Great photo taken with a perfect exposure and perfect timing. Amazing details and beautiful natural colours.

Stunning in-flight capture of this beautiful Kingfisher from Tanzania, Ronny. The best part of the image is the sharp focus on the eye despite the flurry of movement at the time of take-off. Your nature imagery seen thus far is outstanding and an asset to this site.

Quality picture,no doubt.Nicely freeze in the air.Good details with nice colour.
Thanks for sharing,

Nicely framed and great eye sharpness. The background is busy but the bird is still lifted off it with the wings framing the subject.
