Band-Bellied Crake
~Globally rare and under red list threatened Species under BirdLife International.

Identification
Forehead rufous; rest of upperparts olive-brown; greater and median upperwing-coverts variably marked white; chin and throat white; side of head to breast cinnamon-rufous; flanks to undertail-coverts boldly barred black and white (dark bars browner in female). Legs and feet salmon to red; bill blue-grey with green base.

First-winter
Duller overall plumage as compared to adult. Paler, washed-out head-sides and breast. May lack the white bars on wing coverts.

Similar species
Resembles Ruddy-breasted Crake but the Band-bellied Crake has a stronger, thicker and shorter bill. The black and white bars between the flanks and undertail-coverts are also more distinct than the Ruddy-breasted Crake.

Asia:
Russia, Sakhalin Island, Siberia, China, Inner Mongolia, North Korea, Japan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi

Habitat
Breeds in lowland marshes and tussocky meadows containing thickets or small trees; winters in wet grassland, swamps and paddyfields.

What a wonderful approach to this Porzana paykullii! Congratulations on this beautiful composition (very nice rock on which the bird walks).

Very nice capture of this Band-Bellied Crake, nice composition and POV, I detect a little noise here hmmm, could it be over sharpening or cropping, maybe both..., however a good try, with this high end equipment used i would expect a better result,
