|Today was a very hot day in Jammu. I was doing some indoor shoot of my school sports complex and had my 18-200mm lens mounted on the camera. After coming out of the building, I passed the shade of a tree and noticed this Painted Lady on the ground with its wings open. So I shot this picture with a lens not meant for macro work. Hope you like it.|
The Cynthia group of colourful butterflies, commonly called painted ladies, comprises a subgenus of the genus Vanessa in the Family Nymphalidae. They are well known throughout most of the world.
The group includes:
The Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui), which is almost global in its distribution
Australian Painted Lady (Vanessa kershawi)
American (Painted) Lady (Vanessa virginiensis)
West Coast Lady (Vanessa annabella)
