Hello friends, the American toad.

1/250s f/5.6 ISO1000 85mm (35mm eq:127mm).

From New Hampshire Public television website :
http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/americantoad.htm

« Behavior
The American toad is usually nocturnal. It spends
daylight hours under cover. When cold weather arrives,
it burrows into the ground and hibernates.

Toads don't cause warts, but the American toad
produces a toxin in glands behind its eyes that can
be harmful if swallowed or if it gets in your eyes.

The toxin protects it from some predators. For predators
that aren't affected by the toxin, the American toad will
puff itself up so that it looks bigger. »

Merci.

Asbed

Hello Asbed,
Nice to see your images. Remarkable photo and comments. This interesting specie has wonderful natural colors. The contrast against the background is superb. Very nice photo taken from a excellent POV.
Thanks for sharing!
Marius.

Hi Asbed. It seems strange to me that they burrow for the winter. I guess because the frost line is several feet down. But they survive.

I like the shot, but you could use more light. The sun is in and a flash might have helped here to bring out the skin pattern. I like the framing. It's a good profile shot. TFS Trevor

Bonjour Asbed,
Même si ce n'est pas un oiseau, je pense que j'aurais trouvé le nom du photographe. Les couleurs naturelles, la manière de prendre la photo portent la signature Asbed. Une vraie beauté par sa coloration dorée, ce crapaud. Merci!
