[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For the past two years I have been observing this elegant swallowtail butterfly known as the Common Rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae) at the college in high summer and it seldom gave me a chance to shoot it.It just hastily flitted away past me, over the trees and bushes and I felt awkward to run after it like a child(though I sure wanted to who says I did not) but being the head of the institution it did not become me to be that impatient running like mad after a butterfly. But this time, I got it. The lawns lay deserted, boys were away on summer vacation and in the company of Munir, our servant, we spotted it beating the heat on the leaves of a citrus plant and we both were thrilled.I think it is a rare visitor in my part of Pakistan. I took a number of shots and this one being presentable, is posted here for friends to see.In all probability, it is a male Common Rose and I do hope friends will like it.

Note: I apologize to all the TN friends for not filling my quota of comments on their photos after consecutively posting three, this one being third photo but I do promise, I'll do the needful at the earliest and do sincerely hope friends will forgive me as I am hard pressed for time.Thanks.

The Wikipedia:

It is widely distributed in Asia. Afghanistan, Pakistan, India(includes Andaman islands), Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan (south-western Okinawa only), Laos, Vietnam, Kampuchea(now Cambodia), Nicobar islands, peninsular and eastern Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines (Palawan and Leyte), Indonesia, and Taiwan.

In China, it is distributed in southern and eastern China (including Hainan, Guangdong province), and Hong Kong. In Indonesia, it is distributed in Sumatra, Nias, Enggano, Bangka, Java, Bali, Kangean, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Flores, Tanahjampea, and Kalimantan.

It is also recorded from Pune.

The upperside of male is velvety black.

Forewing with well-marked pale adnervular streaks on the discal area that do not reach the terminal margin, the latter broadly velvety black; the streaks beyond end of cell extended inwards into its apex.

Hind wing with elongate white discal markings in interspaces 2–5 beyond the cell.

In dry-weather specimens these markings are very short and do not nearly reach the bases of the interspaces; beyond these a curved series of subterminal lunular markings in interspaces 1 to 7 dull crimson irrorated with black scales, the spot in interspace 1 large, irregular, diffuse, margined interiorly with white.

The Common Rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae) is a swallowtail butterfly belonging to the Pachliopta genus, the Roses, or Red-bodied Swallowtails. It is a common butterfly which is extensively distributed across South and South East Asia.

Hi Syed Abid,
Beautifully composed shot, lights, colors and DoF are perfect each. The entire photo is very pleasant to look at, although in my opinion you should use Neat Image or any other software for reducing the background noise. But otherwise an excellent image. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards, László

Hello Abid,
I had to smile as you described your feeling about running after this butterfly like a child, I have been in your shoes many times.
Needless to say you were successful in this instance and managed to capture a wonderful shot. I like it's distinctly veined wings and lovely tails. I'm not sure if it is backlighting effect or not, but the whitish colors between each black vein is so attractive. Nicely presented and displaying very good detail. A tad bit of BG noise, but this can easily be reduced in Neat Image.

Amazing butterfly and great photo Abid! Excellent composition, wonderful BG, fantastic lighting and very good sharpness!

Hello Abid sahab!
Great choice of POV to show this beautiful butterfly of our region. Very good sharpness and details, beautiful light, excellent contrast with the BG and great depth. Despite a noisy BG this composition looks very pleasant to eyes. Thanks for sharing,
Best Regards,

simple and so beautiful, TFS Ori

Hello Abid,
Very beautiful macro in great sharpness, details and splendid colours. How nice to see it against such a beautiful background. The contrast is gorgeous. Excellent composition.

Your college must be a wonderful place with birds and butterflies. The picture is sharp with a lovely green background. The bird and insect photographers may some time look funny for others. I am trying to get over that complex with lots of difficulties.
