I took this shot in February this year close to Rawal Lake, Islamabad. This parrot was sitting on an electric pole far away. Bare trees and almost no vegetation around helped me easily spot this guy. These lovely birds are common in Islamabad but its not always possible to take decent shots as most of the times they are perching high above the trees and camouflaging well in greener surroundings. Another problem is their bigger size; it is not easy for me to get a full shot of them with reasonable details. Some interesting details from Wikipedia are :
The species is named after Alexander the Great, who is credited with the exporting of numerous specimens of this bird from Punjab into various European and Mediterranean countries and regions, where they were considered prized possessions for the nobles and royalty.
The Alexandrine parakeet is the largest species of all parakeet (small parrot with long tail) species, thus often being the largest parrot in their native range.
The species name eupatria has its origins from Greek. Where the prefix eu translates into good or noble and the suffix patria is a Greek word translating as either fatherland or ancestry. Consequently, the species' scientific name means something in the line "of noble ancestry", "of noble fatherland" or "of noble nation".
The species has naturalized itself in numerous European countries. Particularly in Germany, in the south of England, in Belgium, in Greece, in western Turkey and in the Netherlands where it generally lives amongst or alongside flocks of naturalized Psittacula krameri (ringnecked or rose-ringed parakeet).
The Alexandrine parakeet's natural call heard here is a powerful screech but deeper than that of its very close-relative the rose-ringnecked or rose-ringed parakeet.

Superfamily: Psittacoidea

Hi Akbar-Beautiful species.Very well captured.Details and colour are really nice.Don't know why this beauty didn't sit little bit on a branch to give you a chance to capture a stunning nature picture!Good work.Regards and thanks for sharing-Srikumar
hallo Akbar
a beauty of a Parakeet with beautiful colours
thanks gr lou
Akbar,
The Alexandrine parakeet can and does make a decent pet; however, they have a terribly harsh bite. Even hand raised ones are most difficult to become docile and loving companions like dogs etc:.
The image has character despite the conditions under which it was registered. A BEAUTIFUL HEAD!!!
Great notes.
Best and most kind regards,
Mario.
