The Plains Cupid (Chilades pandava) is a species of Lycaenid butterflies found in countries such as India and Singapore. They are among the few butterflies that breed on plants of the cycad family.

Distribution

Peninsular India, south of the outer ranges of the Himalayas, but not in the desert tracts and somewhat local. Sri Lanka, Assam, Burma, extending into the Malayan Sub-region.

Hi Ram,
Nice shot. I love the color contrast between the flower and the smooth green background, and also the focus, which is more on the flower than on the butterfly. Lights are fantastic, too. The only thing I should change is cropping a little more from left (and also from the top, but even less) to allow the flower and the butterfly forming a diagonal line. Otherwise good work, I like it.

Hi Ram,in your note about the distrbution of this species you can add the Mauritius island too,i seen this specie there in the last winter,very very small and caught in an excellent macro,good detail and bright colors,i like it! Have a nice week and thanks,Luciano

Hello Ram,
I have to say this tiny Plains Cupid butterfly is certainly a beautiful specimen, but the flower it is perched on is also an eye catcher. Both are photographed in excellent detail and vivid color.
I don't see many of these tiny butterflies here in our area, and the ones I do always seem to be extremely low to the ground. I would love to capture one posed high up on a beautiful plant like this. Great shot!!
