I had captured this "Banded Mongoose" picture at Skukuza, Kruger National Park, South Africa. It was early morning and I got sufficient light to capture well this beautiful species.

The "Banded Mongoose" (Mungos mungo) is a mongoose commonly found in the central and eastern parts of Africa. It lives in Savannas, open forests and grasslands and feeds primarily on Beetles and millipedes. Mongoose use various types of dens for shelter including termite mounds. While most mongoose species live solitary lives, the banded mongoose live in colonies with a complex social structure.

SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION:-
KINGDOM: Animalia
PHYLUM: Chordata
CLASS: Mammalia
ORDER: Carnivora
FAMILY: Herpestidae
GENUS: Mungos
SPECIES: M. mungo (Gmelin 1788)

The Banded Mongoose is a sturdy mongoose with a large head, small ears, short, muscular limbs and a long tail. Animals of wetter areas are larger and darker coloured than animals of dryer regions. The abdominal part of the body is higher and rounder than the breast areas. The rough far is grayish brown, and there are several dark brown to black horizontal bars across the back.

Banded Mongoose lives in many of Africa's protected areas.

Hello Srikumar,
What a pity that there wasn't more light. I can not see the 10-12 black bands across the body of the mongoose.
Excellent sharpness and an attractive pose with eye contact. Taken from a perfect low POV.
Regards,
Peter

SUPERB IMAGE with great details of fur of this "BEJI" of south africa.

Hello Shrikumar,
This animal is not commonly seen in nature and for that alone you deserve an award. Maybe it is still a juvenile that one does not see the black bands. But what good definition. A real pleasure to view.
