CACYREUS MARSHALLI

Geranium Bronze
Brun des pélarganiums
Pelargonien-Bläuling

Family: Lycaenidae
Subfamily: Polyommatinae
Wingspan: 26-30mm
Habitat: gardens, flowery meadows

The species is native of South Africa. It has, however, been introduced (deliberately or accidentally) to Mediterranean Europe (initially the Balaeric Islands), where it has spread as a pest of cultivated Pelargonium geraniums, which also originate in South Africa. It was first recorded in the United Kingdom in Sussex in 1997 (also on geranium)(Wikipedia)

The first time I see it in my town.

Hi Anne,
Very interesting note, I've never heard about this species before. The composition is an excellent rulebraker (in my opinion), because both the butterfly on the right and the white flower on the left look out of, and not into the frame, but it doesn't make the compo unpleasant. Excellent choice! Contrast between the flower and the bronze brown butterfly is perfect also. Except for the little, just a very little oversharpened subject, a top class photo! Brava!
Best regards, László

Liebe Anne,

Peter
